From Deputy Foreign Editor Mary Beth Sheridan and Foreign Editor Douglas Jehl:

We’re very pleased to announce that Tony Faiola will become South America/Caribbean bureau chief, beginning next summer. He will be based in Miami, replacing Nick Miroff, who will return to the newsroom in June 2017 after eight years of distinguished reporting from Mexico, Cuba and South America, while living in Havana.

Tony is one of our most distinctive and accomplished foreign correspondents, having spent most of his 22 years at The Post reporting from overseas, including as bureau chief in Tokyo, London and currently Berlin. He is a fluent Spanish speaker whose first foreign posting was in Buenos Aires. The Miami base will mark something of a homecoming for Tony, who graduated from Florida International University and began his reporting career at the Miami Herald.

In covering Latin America, Tony will divide responsibilities with Josh Partlow, our Mexico bureau chief.
