Today’s WorldView is part of The Post’s emerging focus on actively growing international readership. In 2016, The Post saw big growth in its global audience with an 89% increase in fourth quarter page views over the same time period in 2015, and has over 25 million international readers.
“With the expansion of our international audience, we felt it was important to build on our strong foreign news reporting and begin experimenting with ways to specifically serve the interests of these readers,” said Frederick J. Ryan, Jr. publisher of The Washington Post. “This newsletter will be a first step in our effort to proactively reach more people around the world with The Post’s reporting and original writing.”
Ryan also said that The Post will closely monitor the newsletter’s performance as it continues to pursue ways to engage readers abroad in 2017.
“We have a strong commitment to our international audience,” he said. “We will study the results of this newsletter, take the things that work best and apply those lessons to future efforts.”
Delivered to coincide with the start of a European business day, the newsletter will highlight the day’s essential reads, selected for global readers. It will feature reporting by The Post’s U.S. and foreign correspondents, commentary from The Post’s Global Opinions team and curated reads from other international publications. It will also include rich video and photo that capture big stories from around the world.
“We know that audiences abroad are hungry to make sense of how a new American president grapples with a complex world,’’ said Douglas Jehl, The Post’s foreign editor. “Tapping into the strength of our reporting, Today’s WorldView will be a guide for understanding this critical question and will illuminate friction points as well as common ground between Washington and the world.”
