Announcement from Homepage Editors Kenisha Malcolm and Emily Tsao:

We are pleased to announce that April Bethea is moving into the early morning role of national homepage editor.

April joined the hub in February 2016 as a nighttime producer and quickly proved herself to be a keen-eyed editor on all digital platforms. We’ve been most impressed with April’s news judgment. She responds well to news being covered by our staff and recognizes other worthy stories as she monitors social media and other news outlets.  During her time on the homepage, April has also demonstrated the ability to juggle multiple news events while exhibiting calm under pressure. She has shown skill in crafting engaging alerts and makes sure we are prepared for news events that can be anticipated.

Before coming to The Post, April spent 11 years at her hometown paper, The Charlotte Observer. As a metro eporter for more than eight years, she covered education and county government before moving to the online team as a morning producer. In that role, and later as a digital editor for the metro desk, she was one of the first people in the newsroom chasing news each morning.

April is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill.

Please join us in congratulating April. She will begin her new role next month.
