Announcement from National Editor Steven Ginsberg, Deputy National Editor Lori Montgomery and Deputy National Politics Editor Peter Wallsten:

We are very excited to announce that Felicia Sonmez, a former Post politics reporter who spent the last five years in China, is returning as a reporter on our newly launched politics breaking news team.

In her new role, Felicia will partner with John Wagner to provide fast and authoritative coverage of the biggest political stories each day from the White House, Congress and the campaign trail. Felicia’s arrival will further enhance our breaking news operation, ensuring we provide high-speed, high-quality coverage from early morning through the evening.

Felicia has been based in Beijing since 2013, working first as a correspondent for Agence France-Presse and later as the editor of The Wall Street Journal’s China Real Time Report. Most recently, she spent a year in advanced Chinese language study as a 2016-2017 Blakemore Freeman Fellow at Tsinghua University.

A graduate of Harvard University, Felicia began her career teaching English in Beijing. She covered the 2008 presidential race as a reporter for The Asahi Shimbun, Japan’s leading daily newspaper, and worked as an associate editor and staff writer at National Journal’s The Hotline. She joined The Post in 2010 as a writer for The Fix, and went on to cover Congress, the 2012 presidential campaign and the early days of President Obama’s second term.

Felicia’s first day will be June 18. Please join us in welcoming her back to The Post.
