Situated in a wooded Waldorf community is a new townhouse development in a serene, parklike setting. Hamilton Park has open floor plans with two-car garages and backyard decks to enjoy the cooler fall weather.

The brown, all-brick, three-story exteriors give the suburban neighborhood more of an urban look. The community has been open for about a year and is being developed by Stanley Martin Homes.

Once completed, the community will have about 170 townhouses intermingled with outdoor space that includes a multipurpose field, gazebo, picnic area and two tot lots.

Two floor plans: The builder offers buyers two floor plans, with five elevations for each. One of the primary differences between the two is that the Kent model has garages in the back and the larger Bradford model has garages in front.

Both plans offer three bedrooms and have three floors of living space. But the Bradford plan, which Stanley Martin features as the model home, offers a little more square footage, primarily in the lower-level recreation room, main level and owner’s bedroom.

In the recreation room, the builder showcases a finished exercise room with mirrored walls and a sitting area overlooking a glass door that leads onto the brick patio.

From this garage-level entrance, a flight of stairs leads up to an open and spacious main level which houses the great room, gourmet kitchen and a dining area. Homeowners and guests entering the front door are greeted in a two-story foyer with stairs that lead up to the main level.

The bright and sunny great room has an all-brick accent wall giving the space a focal point. The room also has large windows overlooking the front yard. An end unit offers additional windows on the side. The model features recessed lighting and hardwood floors throughout the main level.

The kitchen has a center island with a sink and a breakfast bar large enough to accommodate five stools. There’s an abundance of countertop and cabinet space as well as a pantry. (Benjamin C. Tankersley/For The Washington Post)

Lots of counter space: A black-and-white kitchen has a center island with a sink and a breakfast bar large enough to accommodate five stools. There’s an abundance of countertop and cabinet space as well as a pantry.

The dining area has decorative crown and chair-rail molding. A glass door opens onto the 18-by-10-foot deck. The builder is offering a free deck or patio with each townhouse.

There are powder rooms on the lower level and the main level and two full bathrooms on the top floor.

A staircase off the kitchen leads to the third-floor sleeping quarters. The owner’s bedroom is in the back. It comes with a large walk-in closet with wire shelving and private bathroom with his-and-her sinks and a glass-enclosed shower.

The remaining two bedrooms are on the opposite end of the residence, and each offers ample closet space. If only two bedrooms are needed, the third bedroom can be used as a home office, as it is in the model. They share a hall bathroom with a tub.

A laundry area with a stackable washer and dryer also is on the top floor. The builder added a small bonus storage space near the landing of the top floor stairs.

Schools: Jennifer Elementary, Mattawoman Middle and Westlake High.

Transit: The community offers easy access to Routes 225, 5 and 301.
