Sanders and Tanita Adu were particularly attracted to one local builder and the various home styles offered at the Preserve at Woodmore Estates in Bowie. Sanders’s parents own a house built by Craftmark Homes, in Howard County, so they were looking for something similar in Bowie, a community that Tanita said she and Sanders “loved.”
“We were attracted to the large, rolling lots. Privacy was also important,” Tanita said. She and her husband are moving from Laurel. “Also, because the community consists of only 16 home sites, it has a more intimate neighborhood feel.”
Buyers looking for both privacy and room to roam will appreciate the majestic homes on sprawling lots. Barb Stoehr, the Preserve’s sales manager, echoed the Adus’ sentiment and said potential buyers are drawn to the community because it is smaller and quaint with lot sizes that are almost an acre.
“Buyers feel like they can breathe with having plenty of land and not being on top of each other like so many of the other communities in the area,” Stoehr said.
Home prices range from $599,900 to $769,900 and include all of the features that new home buyers have come to expect at this price range.
Dramatic staircase: There are seven floor plans to choose from, not including two that have alternate variations. Once completed, the neighborhood will offer an architectural mixture of homes with Craftmark’s brick- and stone-front exteriors outlining the long cul-de-sac street. Stoehr said currently there are 12 lots left for sale.
The homes come with a professional landscaping package and energy-saving features such as water-efficient shower heads in all of the bathrooms and high-efficiency gas furnaces.
Adding to the spaciousness are open floor plans with large foyers and soaring two-story family rooms. Many desirable features are standard: bathrooms with ceramic tile and elaborate, detailed molding throughout the homes.
“Our foyer area is a total wow factor,” said Stoehr, adding that buyers are often attracted to the dramatic curved staircase and two-story family room.
While there are many features that she enjoys about her new home, Tanita said she is especially fond of the two-story family room with its coffered ceilings and tall floor-to-ceiling fireplace.
The homes range in size from 2,995 square feet for the Chevy Chase model to 5,571 square feet for the Kenwood II model.
Attic space available: The Adus chose the Kenwood, which is the model home for the community. The Kenwood has four or six bedrooms.
A large foyer in the center hall separates the front-facing formal dining room and living room. The living room measures 15-by-22 feet. The family room, open kitchen with a morning room and study are all in the rear portion of the home. The model showcases arched entry walls and sunny bay windows.
Ten-foot ceilings on the first floor and nine-foot ceilings on the second floor are standard and enhance the home’s spaciousness. The second floor of the Kenwood model has four bedrooms, including an owner’s suite with a sitting room and walk-in closet.
The bathroom has rich marble floors and walls as well as a large step-up soaking tub and showers with glass walls. The owner’s suite and bathroom are “the largest and most beautiful in the area,” Stoehr said.
The Adus chose the floor plan with an optional attic, which gives them even more space in the four-level home. The attic has two spacious rooms that can be used as additional bedrooms or recreational areas.
“We enjoy our fourth-level attic with a bedroom, full bathroom and separate living area,” said Tanita, adding, “and, of course, Sanders loves his large basement ‘man cave’ that will soon host Super Bowl parties.”
Shopping and transit: The community has a country feel but is just minutes from a host of shopping, dining and other attractions, including Bowie Town Center, Allen Pond Park, Six Flags America, Freeway Airport, and several golf courses and country clubs.
The Preserves at Woodmore Estates is near the intersection of Mount Oak and Church roads. It’s also conveniently located near Route 50 and Interstate 495. The closest Metro stations are New Carollton and Largo Town Center.
