“Look, that’s Tysons Corner over there,” said Inga Scobie, the McWilliams Ballard sales manager for the Cheval, which the builder, Duball, completed in early 2018. “And there’s Rosslyn and Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Mormon [temple].”
The rooftop has a social area with a bar, comfortable chairs and a gas grill. There are decorative plantings, and the floor is a combination of stone patio and boardwalk-like wood planking. Recorded music plays in the background.
“We go up often on these summer evenings because the sunsets are amazing,” said Judi Schwarz. She and her husband, Milt Schwarz, moved to the Cheval in mid-June.
The Schwarzes are enthralled with their 16th-floor home, which is bright white, spacious (at 2,349 square feet) and decorated in a contemporary style. They moved to Bethesda from a 4,000-square-foot single-family house in Seattle. They wanted to be closer to their sons and their sons’ families, plus, Judi Schwarz said, “we decided at our age, it’s best to be on one floor.”
The couple had no complaints about the reduction in living space. “It turns out it’s bigger than I expected,” she said of the condo unit, gesturing toward the open-plan living room, dining area and kitchen, all with nearly floor-to-ceiling windows. “We don’t feel the least bit confined. It actually doesn’t get better than this.”
