With architectural details such as trim above tall windows and brick exteriors, the townhouses at Rosslyn Key look like they could have been there long before the towers of apartments, offices and hotels surrounding them.

But the enclave now under construction by Madison Homes has modern features, from elevators and two-car garages to tankless hot water heaters and rooftop terraces.

They also have popular floor plans, with gourmet kitchens anchoring the main level.

“The rooms flow from one to another,” says Jim Patton, director of sales and marketing for the Tysons Corner-based builder. “It’s a very open plan.”

In all, 25 houses are being built at 16th Road North, near Clarendon Boulevard. The interior houses, which have the Floor Plan A, and end units, with Floor Plan B, have a study and powder room on the ground level. There is a deck off the main level and an optional fireplace. The master bedroom has a large bathroom and both a walk-in and a traditional closet, and a second bedroom also has its own bathroom. The top level has a loft space and third bedroom and bath, in addition to a large terrace with urban views.

The 2,300-square foot interior units start at $1,374,900. The end units start at $1,424,900.

Four end units with Floor Plan C have an upper-level family room in place of the terrace. At 2,600 square feet, their price begins at $1,499,900.

The three styles share many of the same details, including hardwood floors, dual-zone heating and cooling systems, maple kitchen cabinets, and Quartz counters in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Elevators available: Construction, which began earlier this year, is expected to be complete by next summer.

Kathy Kee says she can’t wait.

There is an elevator for when she is hauling groceries and a wide staircase for when she isn’t. The streets are quiet, yet still in the heart of Rosslyn. And Kee and her husband will have just the right amount of space.

But there is one detail that could make the development a bit more idyllic for Kee — the spelling of her new neighborhood.

“If [Rosslyn Key] were spelled with an ‘e’ at the end that would make it just perfect for us,” says Kee, a retired teacher, laughing.

The Madison Homes community was enticing enough for Kee and her husband to move three blocks from a condo that they also liked.

“There are a lot of reasons we’re excited to move there,” says Kee, who imagines making s’mores with guests on her new rooftop terrace fireplace.

With three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, an open kitchen and living spaces, Kee says, “It has all the essentials, but there’s no wasted space.”

What’s nearby: The location was also a selling point. Rosslyn Key has been deemed a “walker’s paradise” by Walk Score, an Internet ranking service. Restaurants, shops and other businesses, such as gyms, banks and dry cleaners, are within walking distance.

The Target Express, set to open next month, is under a half-mile, or less than a 15-minute walk, away. The Arlington Farmers Market, held Saturday mornings, is also about a 15-minute walk. And even Georgetown is only a 20-minute walk, says Miriam Fernandez, the Rosslyn Key sales agent.

In addition to nearby Freedom Park and Gateway Park, the location of the Rosslyn Jazz Festival held earlier this month, there are numerous pocket parks. “They’re just lovely to walk around,” Fernandez says.

Schools: Francis Scott Key Elementary, Williamsburg Middle, Yorktown High.

Transit: The Rosslyn Metro stop is about three blocks away. It is also near stops for the Georgetown Circulator bus. Nearby major highways include Route 50 and Interstate 66.
