Soubhi and Tanya al-Khateeb for several years searched in vain for an affordable yet stylish condominium in the Burke, Va., area.

But when they spotted a sales flier for the MetroWest development in Fairfax County, they immediately knew that this community was for them.

The condos are housed in groups of four-story brick buildings, and each unit has its own balcony. Standard features include 9-foot ceilings, a large owner’s suite, granite countertops, Whirlpool freestanding washer and dryer, and ceramic tile flooring in the foyer.

Soubhi was most interested in one-level condos, and after passing by the construction at MetroWest, the couple agreed that it would be a nice place to call home.

“We moved in Thanksgiving eve, and despite the fact that we are still in a bit of chaos and there are no blinds on the windows, we feel like children overjoyed with a new toy,” said Tanya.

The Khateebs chose the Dublin floor plan, which has the deluxe-size living room and owners’ suite. The Dublin also has a dramatic, long foyer with an optional tray ceiling. Three walk-in closets provide room for plenty of clothing, and a large balcony accommodates outdoor entertaining.

“Every day, we love it. The building is beautiful; the unit is beautiful,” said Tanya. “We feel like royalty.”

Extra-sunny rooms: MetroWest sales consultants were busy showing off the new condominiums the first weekend in December when the model homes officially opened. The Pulte Homes community sold out of townhouses, and the first building of condos was sold out before the model homes opened, but Lien Nguyen, sales consultant, said units in three other buildings are being sold.

The Flats — the two-bedroom, two-bathroom model that the Khateebs purchased — range in size from 1,256 to 1,685 square feet.

Seven floor plans are available. Four of the models are showcased, including the Aberdeen, the midsize plan at 1,500 square feet, and the Dublin, the largest.

One thing you’ll notice when touring the models is that they are all extra sunny, thanks to a row of windows lining the back walls. Three of the floor plans have central living room surrounded by two bedrooms and a dining room and kitchen in the front of the home.

Other plans, including the Aberdeen, are a bit more free flowing. Guests walk through a long, angled foyer where they pass the bedrooms before entering a grand open space with the living room, dining room and a sizable kitchen. The model has hardwood floors, sophisticated light fixtures and ceramic tile bathrooms.

Schools: Marshall Elementary, Jackson Middle School, Oakton High School.

Orange Line is nearby: There is dedicated underground parking, and MetroWest pretty much sits on the Orange Line. Homeowners can easily stroll or bike between the Vienna Metro station and home. The station, which includes electric-car charging connections and bike stands, is nine stops from Washington.

This pedestrian-friendly community also has green spaces and playgrounds connected by bike paths and jogging trails. The nearby new Providence Community Center offers a gym, fitness center, arts-and-crafts room, game room, computer lab, commercial kitchen and spaces that residents can use for meetings and special events.

The community is within walking distance of the Pan Am Shopping Center, is less than three miles from the Mosaic District, and is to be the site of a commercial and retail area in the future.

“My husband, in particular, likes the urban feel of it,” said Tanya. “The community has a wonderful urbane, fresh and clean feel about it. It has a charm,” she said.
