Transformation of the area around the H Street corridor in Northeast Washington continues with the construction of a relatively large-scale condominium complex called the Maryland.

The development, at 1350 Maryland Ave. NE, will have 84 one- and two-bedroom units once it opens in March, making it one of the largest new condo projects in the city.

“The neighborhood around the Maryland has lots of retail, restaurants and nightlife, so when we were able to put this land together, we thought it gave us a unique opportunity for new residential development,” said Will Lansing, principal of Valor Development. “We wanted to bring new density to the area.”

Lansing says the Maryland’s design received a lot of feedback from the community and its advisory neighborhood commission.

“We wanted to pull in a little of the surrounding historic charm of Capitol Hill and yet also have a chic, modern look to the building,” Lansing said.

Lansing says the developers expect the building to appeal to young people and older people who want to walk to restaurants and nightlife venues.

“We put in higher-end finishes such as hardwood flooring and stainless-steel appliances, and then we added this big rooftop deck with great views of the Capitol so everyone can enjoy outdoor space,” Lansing said.

Bluetooth shower head: Each unit has an open floor plan with a contemporary kitchen, a living and dining area, one or two bedrooms and one or two baths. Buyers have a choice of three finish packages that include kitchen and bath cabinets, counters, tile and flooring stain.

One of the largest residences, Unit 210, has 1,013 finished square feet and is priced from $574,900. The unit includes a closet with a full-size washer and dryer and a coat closet off the foyer; a full bath with a combination tub and shower; a bedroom with a double-door closet; and a master suite that has a walk-in closet and a private full bath with an oversize shower, with a Bluetooth shower head for music. There is an open kitchen, living area and dining area with glass doors to a private balcony.

Unit 315, a 953-square-foot unit priced at $559,900, has an open floor plan that stretches from a balcony at one end through the living and dining area to the kitchen. Near the kitchen are a full bath, two closets and a closet with a stacked washer and dryer. The unit has a master bedroom with a private full bath, and a second bedroom.

Shopping and food: The Maryland features a large roof deck with shuffleboard courts, grills and seating. It also has concierge services, an attended front desk, a custom-designed lobby, elevators and garage parking for 42 cars.

The Maryland is located where Capitol Hill and the H Street corridor meet, so residents can find dozens of shops, restaurants, bars and theaters within walking distance, and a Whole Foods is scheduled to open in the neighborhood in 2015. Along H Street are the Rock & Roll Hotel, the H Street Country Club, the Biergarten Haus and Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar. More restaurants and nightlife are not far away in the Eastern Market and Barracks Row sections of Capitol Hill.

Schools: Miner Elementary School, Browne Education Campus, Dunbar High School.

Transit: The Maryland is served by the X1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 Metro bus routes as well as the B2. The nearest Metro station is Union Station on the Red Line. Capitol Bikeshare is available nearby. Streetcar service along H Street is anticipated to run from Union Station to the Anacostia River.
