With their brick facades accented by shingled bays, the townhouses at Rockland Village Green look like they belong in an urban neighborhood. But these homes are situated behind an auto dealership on Route 50, next to low-rise apartment buildings in a residential area of suburban Chantilly, Va.

The L-shaped development of 24 townhouses is being built with its namesake village green — a small park — at the intersection of two streets. Two 24-foot-wide floor plans are available, the Holbrook and the Bennington. The standard three-story floor plans for both have three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a two-car garage.

So far, six Holbrook townhouses have been built at the community. Four are sold, including the model home, and two are ready for immediate move-in. Each unit in this completed row has been extended by four feet at the rear, to 44 feet. Only the Holbrook can be extended this way; the Bennington is limited to the standard 40-foot depth.

Base prices are $609,990 for the Holbrook and $629,990 for the Bennington, but most units are being built with upgrades so the costs are higher. The seven Bennington townhouses that will be located opposite the already completed Holbrooks range from $660,800 for interior units to $703,250 for the end units.

The Bennington floor plan has the garage at the front; the Holbrook has it at the rear. Given this arrangement, the Holbrooks have small lawns and planting areas at the front, and the Benningtons will have small backyards.

Open-plan living: The development’s only model home is the Holbrook, a spacious, three-level townhouse that shows off the advantages of an upgraded end unit. Double-pane windows in the unshared wall illuminate the foyer, stairway, kitchen and both sides of the bed in the owner’s suite.

The standard ground floor is designed with a recreation room off the foyer, but the model home has been built with an optional fourth bedroom and fourth bathroom.

On the second level, the kitchen, with its large island and two pantries, occupies the rear, an alternative to the standard centralized location in the open floor plan. Premium stainless-steel appliances, Shaker cabinets and quartz countertops are upgrades from the standard fixtures and finishes.

Set into one corner of the kitchen, next to the stairs, is a small home office that can be furnished with an optional built-in desk and cabinets.

The dining area and great room flank the kitchen in the standard floor plan, but in the model home, they occupy the open space extending from the kitchen to the front. A round dining table for six and brightly upholstered seating on a shag rug show the design possibilities of the space.

Lots of light: On the third floor, two bedrooms, each with a closet, are located at the front. One is staged as a home office, and the other is decorated as a child’s bedroom.

A bathroom, a linen closet and a laundry room with a sink are located off the hallway, which leads to the owner’s suite at the rear. Although the ceilings on this level, at eight feet high, are a foot lower than those on the second and ground floors, tall windows in the bedrooms, including a cluster of three across the back of the owner’s suite, brighten the spaces with natural light.

The owner’s suite bedroom is large enough for a seating area and two walk-in closets. The suite’s bathroom includes a glass-faced shower with a bench, a wood vanity with two sinks, and a toilet closet.

What’s nearby: Rockland Village Green is close to a variety of stores on Route 50, including Aldi, CVS, Target, Costco and Lowe’s. Fair Oaks Mall is about five miles away. Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is 3.3 miles from the community. Other nearby destinations include the Dulles Expo Center, about a mile away, and the Chantilly Regional Library, less than two miles.

Transportation: The townhouse community is one block from Route 50, where Fairfax Connector buses provide service to the Vienna Metro station. Major highways — including I-495, I-66 and Route 28 — are within short driving distances. Dulles International Airport is about seven miles away.

Schools: Brookfield Elementary, Franklin Middle and Chantilly High.
