Westmoore, a development of 599 townhouses and single-family attached homes, is taking shape in Loudoun County’s Ashburn. It’s joining other developments ensconced along the new Silver Line Metrorail tracks but is distinguished by being the community closest to the Metro.

Atapco Properties — a subsidiary of American Trading and Production Corp. — which develops industrial, retail, residential and mixed-use sites, is developing Westmoore on 67 acres it bought from the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation.

The site is a sprawling mix of completed residences with grass and flowers in the front yards, Tyvek-covered outer walls of future houses and holes in the ground next to piles of lumber, dumpsters and yellow tractors.

Phase One is sold out. Phase Two spreads across 20 acres with 158 townhouses and 14 single-family attached houses on the market now. Ryan Homes and NVHomes are building the residences. LM Marketing Group is handling marketing and advertising for them.

Monique Vaughter and her 7-year-old son Aaron, a second-grader, moved from Ashburn into a townhouse in early October.

“The biggest seller for me was the rooftop terrace,” she said. “I absolutely love it. I have a very busy schedule. I don’t have a lot of time to maintain green space, so I opted for blue space, the sky.” She intends to entertain and relax there and said it’s also a perfect place for yoga. Some models have covered porches and narrow balconies.

Large kitchen islands: The interiors are spacious and bright, and they offer open-concept living. There are five floor plans and a choice of traditional or contemporary design. Townhouse models are the Clarendon, 16 feet wide; Van Dorn, 20 feet; Ballston, 22 feet; and Tyson, 24 feet. Reston, the single-family attached model, is 34 feet wide.

Another variation among the models is placement of the kitchen. It’s situated either in the middle of the main living floor between dining and great rooms or on one end of the floor with dining room and great room flowing into each other.

The kitchens are spacious, and the center island in the Tyson is 12 feet 6 inches long. It can seat a dinner party.

Bathrooms are also big. Vaughter bought a shower and tub combination and the audio package, which included speaker installation in several rooms and on the terrace.

Alleys run behind rows of houses and lead to rear garages. Streets are perpendicular to one another.

Carlos Hernandez, his wife, Claudia Pachon, and two daughters moved into Westmoore on Sept. 11 from an apartment across Loudoun County Parkway. Melissa, 22, goes to West Virginia University and, Emily, 12, is in seventh grade at Stone Hill Middle School.

“It’s a big, huge space. It has everything for us,” he said. “I say thank you to my God every day because he provided us with such a beautiful home.”

Parks to come: Three parks will be incorporated into the landscape. Westmoore Park will be urban-inspired, according to promotional materials. There’ll be open green space, playground and outdoor seating. Evermoore Park will offer the same features plus a shaded pavilion, amphitheater and dog park. Though built by Atapco, it will be managed and maintained by the county and will be open to the public. Linear parks with grassy strips punctuated with benches and trees will run along major streets inside the community and walking trails will crisscross it.

“We’re bringing new urbanism to Ashburn and Loudoun County with our new product design and urban-inspired amenities,” said Laurie Matthews, principal of LM Marketing Group. “This active, walkable lifestyle is desirable to our buyers.”

Westmoore Club will have a resort pool with cabanas, water features and a beach entry, meaning there’s a little slant to getting into the pool instead of steps down a ladder. A clubhouse will feature a fitness center, yoga studio, outdoor fire pit, grand room for community get-togethers and wraparound deck with barbecue grills. The club will sit on a corner of the development and the deck will have views overlooking a large man-made pond.

Four golf courses are in the vicinity: 1757 Golf Club, Brambleton Golf Course, Belmont Country Club and the Golf Club at Lansdowne. From the latter, one can walk into Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park, a woodland of 122 acres along the Potomac River.

Where to shop: Nine retail and commercial hubs are relatively close by — Shoppes at Ryan Park, Loudoun Station, Broadlands Village Center, Brambleton Town Center, One Loudoun, Dulles 28 Centre, Lansdowne Town Center, Village at Leesburg and Dulles Town Center. Among these are Giant, Harris Teeter, many restaurants, cafes and breweries, ice cream and wine shops, and apparel and cosmetics outlets.

Schools: Moorefield Station Elementary, Stone Hill Middle, Rock Ridge High.

Transit: The drive to Westmoore from the District is about 35 miles along Interstate 66 West and Virginia 267 West. It’s located immediately off Exit 6. The Silver Line is under construction, and the Ashburn Metro station is anticipated to open in 2020. The Beltway/Interstate 495 is reached via 267.
