Sonsyrea Tate Montgomery is a columnist for The Root DC. She is a third-generation Washingtonian who formerly covered Prince George’s County as a reporter and columnist for community newspapers. She is the author of two published memoirs and a pending novel chronicling life working on Capitol Hill. She is the previous managing editor of The Washington Informer, and loves, loves, loves helping keep “the public journal” of the people residing in the D.C. area.
