Gavin McCarney accounted for 510 total yards and played a role in five touchdowns to power Colgate past Georgetown, 57-36, Saturday in a Patriot League game in Hamilton, N.Y.
Colgate set a team record with 707 yards of total offense.
McCarney completed 22 of 28 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. He added 133 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Colgate (4-3, 2-0) scored on its opening drive of the game when McCarney found Kevin O’Connell for a 19-yard touchdown. After a missed extra point, Georgetown’s Kyle Nolan found Kevin Macari for a 25-yard touchdown to give the Hoyas (3-5, 0-2) the lead.
On the Raiders’ next possession, Nate Bellamy scored on a 47-yard run and McCarney converted the two-point attempt for a 14-7 lead. Colgate expanded its lead to 37-14 at halftime.
●RICHMOND 35, JAMES MADISON 29: Michael Strauss passed for four touchdowns in his first collegiate start and Kendall Gaskins ran for 106 yards and a score in Richmond as the Spiders handed the Dukes their first Colonial Athletic Association loss.
After falling into a 10-6 deficit in the first, Richmond (5-3, 3-2) scored 22 consecutive points on three touchdown passes by Strauss, including two to Kevin Finney. Michael Birdsong passed for one score and ran for another in the fourth quarter for James Madison (5-2, 3-1) to cut the deficit to 35-29 with 35 seconds left, but Richmond held on.
●SHEPHERD 41, WEST VIRGINIA STATE 20: Senior cornerback Keon Robinson (Lake Braddock) returned both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown to lead the visiting Rams past the Yellow Jackets in a West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game in Institute, W.Va.
Bobby Cooper completed 10 of 15 passes for 139 yards for the Rams (6-2, 5-1). Ricky Phillips connected on 20 of 33 passes for 233 yards for the Yellow Jackets (2-6, 4-1).
●VIRGINIA UNION 37, BOWIE STATE 13: The Panthers used a 16-point second quarter to gain the momentum and rolled to victory over the Bulldogs in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association game in Richmond.
Kenneth Graham passed for 112 yards for Virginia Union (4-4, 2-3) but was intercepted three times. Jared Johnston complete nine of 19 passes for 98 yards with one interception for Bowie State (4-4, 2-3).
● EMORY & HENRY 15, CATHOLIC 14: Matt Turchin’s 22-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining sent the Wasps past the Cardinals in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game in Emory, Va.
Catholic (3-4, 2-2) took a 7-0 lead on Mike Pitsenberger’s two-yard touchdown run, his first of two scoring runs. The Cardinals expanded their lead to 14-0 before Emory & Henry (4-3, 1-3) rallied.
Greg Cordivari completed 24 of 35 passes for 251 yards for Catholic but was picked off once.
●GALLAUDET 48, BECKER 26: Todd Bonheyo ran for 88 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 104 yards and another score as the Bison (5-2) beat the Hawks (2-5) in Leicester, Mass.
