The Redskins also lost Shaun Dion Hamilton to a shoulder strain after tying for a team-high seven tackles in his first career start. He left the game in the second half and was replaced by Zach Brown.
Reed has been injury-prone throughout his career, but he hadn’t yet been sidelined through the first 12 games of the season before Sunday. He had surgery on both big toes during the offseason and was held out for most of the preseason, but had gotten through all of the season unscathed. Reed has yet to play all 16 games in a season through first five years in the league. He played a in career-high 14 games in 2015.
The season hasn’t been particularly prolific for Reed, who has recorded 54 catches for 558 yards and two touchdowns.
Vernon Davis picked up Reed’s snaps after his departure and finished with four catches for 31 yards. Redskins Coach Jay Gruden will update the long-term ramifications of the injuries Monday.
Washington started tackles Ty Nsekhe and Austin Howard at left and right guard with Jonathan Cooper (torn biceps) and Tony Bergstrom (knee/ankle) out.
“They were the biggest,” Gruden said. “We went with the size. We’re trying to be a physical football team and try and get some runs downhill, runs early. They probably had the best ability to pass protect.”
