Stephen Strasburg became the first pitcher in MLB history to go 5-0 in a single postseason after outdueling Justin Verlander by allowing two earned runs in eight-plus innings, while Anthony Rendon had five RBI for the Nationals. All six World Series games have been won by the road team.
The Houston-Washington matchup was set when the Astros defeated the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series to clinch their second trip to the World Series in three seasons. The AL West-winning Astros won their only World Series title in 2017, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games.
The Nationals, who beat the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League wild-card game and then the Dodgers in the division series, swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series to reach the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
Game 7 is Wednesday in Houston, with first pitch scheduled for 8:08 p.m. Eastern. Max Scherzer, who was scratched from his scheduled start in Game 5 with neck spasms but reported feeling good after throwing in the outfield ahead of Game 6, will start for Washington. Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Astros.

How can I watch?
There is a watch party planned at Nationals Park for Game 7. Fans will be able to watch the game on the scoreboard, some concessions stands will be open, and there will be free parking (on a first-come, first-served basis). Those planning to go do need tickets to attend, though.
What determined home-field advantage?
Major League Baseball officials wised up after the 2016 season, when they began awarding home-field advantage (and four potential home games) in the World Series to the participant with the better regular season record. From 2003 to 2016, the winner of the MLB All-Star Game determined home-field advantage. Before that, home-field advantage alternated between the AL and NL. The Nationals, who advanced to the playoffs with a wild-card berth, won 93 games during the regular season. The Astros won 107.
What’s the deal with the designated hitter?
Since 1973, baseball has operated with different rules for the National and American Leagues. In the NL, pitchers hit. In the AL, a designated hitter is employed instead. During the World Series, as in interleague play during the regular season, the home team’s rules will be used. That is, Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 will feature designated hitters for both teams, while pitchers will hit in Games 3, 4 and 5.
Who will throw the ceremonial first pitches?
Houston basketball legends and Hall of Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler collaborated on the first pitch before Game 6 in Houston.
Chad Cordero threw the ceremonial first pitch before Game 3 to Brian Schneider, the two men making up the end-of-game battery for the Nationals team that brought baseball back to Washington in 2005. A player from the team’s Youth Baseball Academy threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 4, and D.C. restaurateur and humanitarian José Andrés received a loud ovation when he threw the ceremonial first pitch before Game 5.
President Trump also attended Game 5 and was booed when he was announced and shown on the scoreboard after the third inning as part of a tribute to veterans.
Retired catcher Brian McCann threw the first pitch before Game 1 in Houston, and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles had the honor before Game 2. McCann, who announced his retirement earlier this month, played for the Astros when they won the World Series in 2017.
