Later Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys were outmatched on the road and lost, 19-9, to the Kansas City Chiefs, who have now rattled off four straight wins and returned to form following a rocky start to the season.
Some teams did keep themselves in the playoff picture with wins Sunday. The Ravens — playing without Lamar Jackson — Browns and Bengals all won to keep themselves within striking distance of one another in the AFC North. The Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles all also won, giving themselves a surge of momentum heading toward the home stretch of the season. And the NFC-leading Arizona Cardinals, still without quarterback Kyler Murray, handled the Seattle Seahawks on the road, winning, 23-13.
But perhaps the most intriguing story line of the day was Ron Rivera’s return to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton, who returned to the team in Week 10. In a battle against his old team, Rivera and Washington came out on top with a 27-21 victory behind a stellar performance from Taylor Heinicke.
