Basketball preview: Virginia AAA Concorde District girls

Defending Virginia AAA champion Oakton enters the post-Coyer sister era looking to win a ninth consecutive district tournament title. The Cougars can shoot, and Manner has signed with Stony Brook . . . Owens is a 1,000-point career scorer counting her freshman season at Park View, sophomore season at Middleburg and junior season at Herndon . . . Green, a point guard, scored 19 points in each of Centreville’s first two games . . . Crenshaw (Chowan) transferred back to Robinson after a year at St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes, where she played for her father, Calvin. She averaged 22.9 ppg last season. The Rams have eight freshmen and sophomores . . . Four of the six Concorde teams have new coaches — Centreville (Tom Watson), Chantilly (Kurt Sporkmann), Herndon (Otto Jett) and Westfield (Maggie Endler). Sporkmann was a Chantilly boys’ assistant the past eight years and takes over a program with eight freshmen and sophomores. Endler was a Westfield assistant for six years and inherits a team that graduated only two players. Watson was a Centreville assistant. Jett was a Chantilly assistant . . . Chantilly, led by senior post Allison Rowe, has a German exchange student, Ina Feistenauer, on its team.
