On point? With Seth Allen’s broken foot sidelining the sophomore until at least early January, Dez Wells will start the season at point guard. He commands more respect than any teammate and played point guard in high school, so the move made sense. It also allows freshman Roddy Peters to ease himself into college basketball, though as nonconference play wears on, his minutes may increase.
Who replaces Len? Alex Len’s departure for the NBA leaves behind a massive defensive hole inside the paint. Maryland needs Shaquille Cleare and Charles Mitchell to help fill the void, especially because the Terps may regularly roll with four-guard lineups.
Curb the turnovers: Maryland’s exhibition against Catholic on Sunday started like many of its games last season, with four turnovers in its first six possessions. The Terps’ 15 turnovers per game last season ranked 296th nationally. On a schedule featuring six preseason top 25 opponents, Maryland can ill-afford all those miscues.
