Outlook: United continues its western swing without F Dwayne De Rosario (hip flexor), MFs Nick DeLeon (ankle) and Marcelo Saragosa (knee), and D Dejan Jakovic (adductor). GK Joe Willis will start in place of Bill Hamid (U.S. national team duty) for the second consecutive match. Beyond the injuries and absences, fatigue has become a factor: This is the fourth regular season game, plus a U.S. Open Cup match, across 16 days. A 2-0 loss at Seattle on Wednesday dropped United’s away record to 0-6-2 with a 12-1 goal difference. Thorrington, who has brought possession and distribution to central midfield since returning from a knee injury, seems likely to rejoin the lineup after resting against the Sounders. United has not scored in the run of play (five shutouts and two penalty kicks) in the past seven league games and is 1-9-2 in the previous 12 visits to Denver. Deshorn Brown, a rookie forward from Jamaica, leads the Rapids with five goals and four assists.
