Washington Spirit vs. FC Kansas City

Where: Maryland SoccerPlex, Boyds. When: 7:30 p.m.

Live video:

Records: Spirit 1-7-3, 6 points; Kansas City 7-4-2, 23.

Outlook: After five consecutive shutout defeats, coach Mike Jorden was fired Monday and replaced by reserve team coach Mark Parsons. Parsons guided the D.C. United Women under-20 squad to the 2012 national finals and worked with the Chelsea women’s program in England for several years. The Spirit, which is last in the eight-team National Women’s Soccer League and has gone 461 minutes without a goal, acquired F Lindsay Taylor, 23, from Seattle for a 2014 second-round draft pick. To make room, MF Domenica Hodak (11 appearance, six starts) was waived. MF Diana Matheson (team-high four goals) has missed the past two matches with a sprained ankle but is available against Kansas City, which is on a 4-1-1 surge and four points behind first-place Sky Blue (New Jersey). Kansas City F Lauren Cheney leads the league with eight goals.
