Georgetown vs. Liberty

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Verizon Center.

Radio: ESPN (980 AM).

Records: Hoyas 1-0; Flames 0-2.

Ironing out kinks: Other than freshman D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, the Hoyas shot poorly against Duquesne on Sunday, turned the ball over 17 times and struggling to get the ball inside for back-door cuts that have been so effective for Coach John Thompson III. With top returning scorer Otto Porter Jr. sidelined for all but the first six minutes against the Dukes, the Hoyas leaned on Smith-Rivera (19 points) and 6-foot-8 sophomore Greg Whittington (15 rebounds) for a 61-55 victory that revealed just how far the young squad has yet to go. Georgetown officials wouldn’t divulge Porter’s condition or status for the Liberty game, saying simply, “He is being monitored by our medical staff in advance of the game on Wednesday.”

Legends Classic: Wednesday brings one last tuneup before the team heads to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the Legends Classic, which pits the Hoyas against No. 13 UCLA on Monday and either top-ranked Indiana or Georgia on Tuesday.

Into the Flames: Liberty has lost its first two games by an average of 27 points, falling at Richmond, 84-42, and squandering a 15-point halftime lead against William & Mary to drop its home opener, 71-59.
