Georgetown University has promoted Keith Brown to head women’s basketball coach, according to several people familiar with the school’s search, and is expected to make an official announcement perhaps on Monday or early this week.

Brown has been an assistant with the Hoyas for the past five seasons, all under former coach Terri Williams-Flournoy, who at the beginning of this month left for the same position at Auburn.

Brown served as director of recruiting for Georgetown and played an important role in helping the once-stagnant program gain national recognition by adding such players as first-team all-Big East guard Sugar Rodgers. The senior to-be was Brown’s first McDonald’s all-American recruit.

The Hoyas have made the NCAA tournament each of the past three seasons after making it only once before, but they graduated seven seniors from the winningest class in program history.
