Edison is the favorite, returning two of the district’s top players in Murphy (13.6 ppg.) and Mackall (12.8 ppg.). Sophomore Brumsey also played a big role as a freshman last year, and senior guard Mike Lewis transferred from Mount Vernon and should contribute. . . . Wakefield will be looking to return to the region tournament for the first time in two years and has a solid core to contend. Senior center Glenn is the big inside-out presence, but G Corey Aldrich and G Khory Moore will also be key.. . .

Washington-Lee may have its best team in a number of years. The Generals will be led by Jack Beckman (11.3 ppg.) and Luke McCartin, who is averaging six three-pointers a game early this season. “We’ve got a chance to be pretty good,” Washington-Lee Coach Bobby Dobson said. “If we can shoot the ball like we’ve been shooting it we’ll be fine.” . . . Yorktown will be led by Earley, who averaged 13.4 ppg. last season and could be one of the region’s top returning players. ... Mount Vernon should be in the mix again this season despite losing Jesse Konadu.
