Bowie claimed the regular season Prince George’s County 4A crown but Wise handily defeated the Bulldogs in the Maryland 4A South Region final. The Pumas could repeat behind Brooks, Gibson and Candace Ross, who returns from an ACL injury. Bowie loses three top contributors but could push Wise for a region title with eight returning players, including two starters. The Bulldogs have won at least 20 games each of the past two seasons. Despite her size and youth, Bess is the team’s engine. Nia-Taylor Clark, a 6-1 senior forward, will also contribute. . . . Well-rounded and guard-heavy C.H. Flowers will look to its eight returning players from last season’s squad to replace graduated leading scorer Dominique Person.
