It was not a good week to have a target on your back, as 11 of the previous Top 20 teams lost.

The most notable defeat took place Friday night in Washington, as Gonzaga toppled No.1 DeMatha 65-58. The Eagles rode a late-game scoring surge, putting up 30 points in the fourth quarter to seal a victory.

Four Gonzaga players finished in double-figures, led by junior forward Terrance Williams with 19. The Eagles leap to No. 2 in this week’s rankings. DeMatha made up for their first local loss with two wins over Paul VI. 

1.  DeMatha  ( 23-3 ) Last ranked: 1 

The Stags lost their first local game of the year Friday, falling to Gonzaga by seven. They bounced back with a win against Paul VI on Sunday.

2. Gonzaga ( 21-5 ) LR: 4

The Eagles are the hottest team in the WCAC right now, as victories over O’Connell, DeMatha and Bishop Ireton pushed their win streak to 11 games.

3. Wilson (23-6) LR: 3

The Tigers closed out the DCIAA regular season with wins over Cardozo and Coolidge.

4.  Paul VI (20-6 ) LR: 2

The Panthers lost to DeMatha twice last week but picked up conference wins over McNamara, O’Connell and Good Counsel.

5. Flint Hill (22-2) LR: 5

Georgetown commit Qudus Wahab had 32 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Christ Chapel.

6. St. John’s (20-6) LR: 6

The Cadets bounced back from their heartbreaker against Paul VI with two conference wins last week, over Bishop Ireton and The Heights.

7. Eleanor Roosevelt (13-3) LR: 8

Eleven Raiders scored in a 71-44 win over DuVal.

8. O’Connell (17-9) LR: 7

After falling to Gonzaga and Paul VI last week the Knights are on a three-game skid.

9. Potomac Falls (22-0) LR: 10

The Panthers finished their regular season with a perfect record.

10. Gaithersburg (15-3) LR: 13

After a week of no games, the Trojans face three in four days.

11. Richard Montgomery (16-1) LR: 14

The Rockets finished with four players in double-figures in a win over Whitman.

12. St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (19-3) LR: 9

The Saints lost their first game since late December, falling to Georgetown Prep, 59- 56.

13. West Potomac (17-3) LR: 16

The Wolverines picked up three wins last week — over Annandale, Mount Vernon and T.C. Williams.

14. Patriot (18-2) LR: 11

After falling to Osbourn, the Pioneers picked up wins over Stonewall Jackson and Osbourn Park.

15. South County (14-5) LR: NR

The Stallions scored big wins over Fairfax and Lake Braddock last week.

16. Lake Braddock (19-3) LR: 15

The Bruins lost their first game since December, falling to South County, 80-77.

17. Sidwell Friends (18-6) LR: 12

The Quakers stumbled through last week, losing games to Potomac School and Flint Hill.

18. Osbourn (17-4) LR: NR

The Eagles will enter the Cedar Run District tournament on a four-game win streak.

19. Rock Creek Christian Academy (14-7) LR: NR

The Eagles have a big matchup with Riverdale Baptist this week.

20. McKinley Tech (23-4) LR: NR

The Trainers closed out their regular season with wins over Coolidge, Roosevelt and Dunbar.
