Rob Wendel has resigned after seven seasons as Springbrook’s football coach.

Wendel, who previously was an assistant coach at his alma mater for eight seasons, had a record of 42-30 with two playoff appearances. He plans to continue coaching wrestling and teaching at the Silver Spring school.

“I’ve been coaching football and wrestling for a long time and I’m not looking forward to the offseason” workouts, Wendel said. “I figured if I’m not looking forward to the offseason, it’s not fair to the kids, so maybe it’s time to step back. So I did.”

It is the fifth football coaching change in Montgomery County this offseason. Rockville promoted assistant Seth Kenton to replace Kevin Bernot, who moved to Magruder. Wootton promoted junior varsity coach Tyree Spinner, while Wheaton hired former Paint Branch and Churchill coach Ernie Williams.
