While the high school basketball season has just begun, second-ranked DeMatha and fourth-ranked Gonzaga will host high-profile events this weekend.

DeMatha is hosting the National High School Hoops Festival, an eight-game showcase Saturday and Sunday that includes the host Stags and 17th-ranked St. John’s playing Jamesville-DeWitt led by star center DaJuan Coleman, who has signed with Syracuse. Also, Oak Hill Academy plays Grace Prep of Arlington, Texas, in a meeting of nationally-ranked teams with plenty of college-bound players.

Meantime, the Gonzaga D.C. Classic, an eight-team tournament, begins Friday at Gonzaga, with games Saturday and Sunday at American University’s Bender Arena. The field includes Sidwell Friends and McNamara, as well as Neumann-Goretti of Philadelphia. The championship game is set for Sunday at 6:45 p.m.

“There is no better way to prepare yourself than national competition against top teams to see how you fare,” said Gonzaga Coach Steve Turner, whose team has won its own tournament five years in a row.

At DeMatha, six teams in The Post’s 20 join several teams with high national profiles. Saturday’s games include the Oak Hill-Grace Prep game at 5:45. Oak Hill has five players who have made college commitments, including Georgetown-bound point guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, while Grace Prep features 7-foot Isaiah Austin (Baylor), who is considered one of the nation’s premier players. DeMatha plays Jamesville-DeWitt at 7:30 in the nightcap.

On Sunday, third-ranked Paul VI Catholic plays ninth-ranked Episcopal at 2:45, followed by St. John’s taking on Jamesville-DeWitt.

“It ought to be a fun weekend,” DeMatha Coach Mike Jones said.
