After two innings of Friday’s D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association championship, Wilson’s six seniors exited the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy so they could make it to prom on time.
It was a new type of test for the Tigers (18-7), but without their upperclassmen, they still managed to capture their 24th consecutive DCIAA title with an 11-1 win against School Without Walls.
“It was onward with the puppies,” said Coach Jimmy Silk, “and they got the job done.”
Junior Owen Isaacs took over for senior Henry Cohen and pitched four strong innings in relief. Robert Cordero had a single and a triple with three RBI.
“We were an incredibly young program right now — we started five sophomores,” Silk said. “As a whole the program is in very good hands.”
