Announcement of new anthem policy on same day as release of Milwaukee police video lays bare what each side really stands for.

The president was criticized for being divisive after he said of players who did not stand during the national anthem, “maybe you shouldn't be in the country."

The difference in how the leagues relate to their players comes down to one word: trust.

Redskins takeaways: Observations from Wednesday’s practice

The teams three days of organized team activities conclude Thursday.

The owners hope the new policy keeps fans from focusing on politics and puts their attention on the football being played. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.

Since it was announced, the NFL’s new policy requiring players to stand for the national anthem on the field or wait in the locker room, has done little to quell the debate that has grown into one of the country's most divisive issues.

"I never want to put restrictions on the speech of our players,” said Johnson, who promised to pay any fines that his team might accrue from the NFL for anthem demonstrations.

The former Bills guard, now a free agent, has another notable moment in a turbulent offseason.

In cowardly aiming to hide protesting players from public view, new anthem policy shows the league learned nothing from controversy.

Player protests draw persistently passionate reactions from Americans

If this decision was aimed at creating unity, the initial results were not promising.

The quarterback may be skipping OTAs, but he's 'very excited' about mandatory minicamp, according to the team's owner.

The league owners approved the new rule Wednesday with the hope of ending protests during the anthem that have endured for the past two seasons and drawn criticism from President Trump and some fans. It includes a provision that allows the league to fine teams if a player protests during the anthem.

The Super Bowl MVP reportedly “preferred to remain in Philadelphia,” while the Eagles may be waiting for an even better offer while gauging Carson Wentz's recovery from torn knee ligaments.

It's still not out of the question that the former Cowboys star winds up in Green Bay, but Rodgers indicated that his team is looking to get younger at wide receiver.

Those conversations are scheduled to continue Wednesday at the owners' spring meeting in Atlanta.
