Short on players, T. Roosevelt forfeits opener

Theodore Roosevelt’s season opener against Ballou on Friday night was cancelled because the Rough Riders don’t have enough eligible players, according to sources from both schools.

Theodore Roosevelt was informed Thursday that it did not have 18 eligible players, the minimum number the DCIAA requires for football, and was forced to forfeit. The Rough Riders had only 14 eligible players for the game, a school source said.

Ballou Coach Ed Shields confirmed the game was cancelled.

A message for Theodore Roosevelt Principal Ivor Mitchell wasn’t immediately returned.
