A world heavyweight champion has decided to give up his title to focus on running for president of Ukraine. He’s just the latest athlete to go into politics. Here are a few.
The World Boxing Council heavyweight champion has become a leader in the anti-government protests in the Ukraine capital of Kiev. On Dec. 16, he said he was vacating his WBC title for his presidential run. The decision came two days after he was joined at a rally by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who expressed support for opposition efforts. Klitschko's younger brother, current heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko also addressed the crowds, as did Wladimir's finacee, actress Hayden Panetierre.
