Streets in downtown Washington reopened Thursday morning after D.C. police took a man into custody who had threatened to jump from a building on L Street Northwest.

Police said the man might have been armed with a knife and was inside a building partially under construction near Washington Circle. Police said he had been sitting on a ledge with his feet dangling over the side.

The incident began about 8:45 a.m. and was peacefully resolved about 9:30 a.m.

Police initially closed four blocks of L Street NW, from 21st to 24th streets, then later closed L Street between 19th and 22nd streets, and 21st Street between K and M streets. The closures brought delays for morning commuters in the area.
