Streets were briefly closed in downtown D.C. during Tuesday’s rush hour after the report of a suspicious package, police said.

At around 5:20 p.m., police said Pennsylvania Avenue was closed between 7th and 11th streets, and 9th and 10th streets were closed at D Street. No pedestrian or vehicular traffic would be permitted, according to police.

Police said shortly before 6 p.m. that police activity had been cleared and the streets were reopened.

No further information about the incident was immediately available.
