River North, or RiNo, is a former industrial district that’s grown into its own distinct community known for graffiti-covered facades, punk-rock roots and urban charm. Artists, entrepreneurs and foodies all mix in RiNo, the northwest portion of Five Points — one of Denver’s oldest and most diverse neighborhoods. The stories of RiNo and Five Points are still evolving, which is the best reason to get exploring.

Meet Natalie Lampert

Natalie has lived in Colorado since 2016. She’s an East Coast native who headed west for the mountain air and to live in Mother Nature’s playground. She loves Denver’s “work hard, play hard” vibe, but sometimes misses the easy breathing at sea level.

RiNo

El Chapultepec
This landmark jazz and blues club near Coors Field has live music every night. Going strong since 1933, this late-night local favorite serves Mexican eats on paper plates. Frank Sinatra and Count Basie played here; Jack Kerouac and his beatnik crew hung out here, too.
El Chapultepec, 1962 Market St. Denver, Colo. 80202
Finn’s Manor
Finn’s is a cocktail bar and food truck pod in the heart of RiNo. Grab a whiskey-based concoction and head out to the buzzing, sunny patio. The triple-cured pork from Mile High Caribbean’s food truck is a rare find.
Finn’s Manor, 2927 Larimer St. Denver, Colo. 80205
Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen
They say it’s near impossible to find a decent New York-style bagel west of the Mississippi, but thanks to Rosenberg’s founder Joshua Pollack, Denver is an exception. Killer bagels and whitefish can be found at this modern deli. Go for the Standard: a bagel with cream cheese, gravlax, tomato and onion.
Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen, 725 E. 26th Ave., Denver, Colo. 80205
Stem Ciders
Who doesn’t love a good cidery? This welcoming RiNo brewpub offers off-dry, semisweet ciders with only natural sugars (80 percent of the menu has zero sugar). Be sure to check out the “Nothing Without Courage” street art — one of RiNo’s terrific murals — across the street.
Stem Ciders, 2811 Walnut St. No. 150 Denver, Colo. 80205
First Draft Taproom & Kitchen
There’s something satisfying about pouring your own beer (or wine or cider), especially when it means sampling from 40 rotating taps. There’s coffee, kombucha and cocktails at this high-tech hangout, along with food — tuck into some deviled eggs and fried pickle chips with chipotle aioli.
First Draft Taproom & Kitchen, 1309 26th St. Denver, Colo. 80205
The Ramble Hotel
No need to leave the premises if you’re staying at this stylish hotel, where the lively lobby scene makes you feel like you’re at the center of the universe. You’ll find top-notch cocktails at Death & Co — don’t miss the cool signage on the way up to the rooftop lounge — and delightful dim-sum-style eats at Super Mega Bien.
