Dueling protests over gun control at Florida supermarket
(OPENS WITH NAT: "Trump, Trump, Trump...Who are you going to stop next Winn Dixie? Get out of here. ") That was the reaction from some shoppers at a Florida supermarket to a protest staged by survivors of a school shooting. Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland have led a campaign for gun control since a February shooting that left 17 people dead. On Friday, they held a protest at a supermarket chain that has donated money to gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam. Putnam supports the National Rifle Association, or N-R-A, which opposes new restrictions on gun ownership. (Sot-David Hogg) "Where politicians get get money from the NRA, when Adam Putnam takes 670 thousand dollars from Publix supermarkets, we call BS." But they were met by counter-demonstrators. (Sot-Nicholas Acocella) "I'm a constitutionalist. I think this is ridiculous." The students' voices won in the end -- Publix has announced it is suspending all political contributions until further notice. Meanwhile, a shooting at a middle school in Indiana Friday left a teacher and a 7th grade girl injured.
