NFL wide receiver Kenny Stills and sports broadcaster Bob Costas say athletes once vilified for protesting police brutality by taking a knee during the national anthem will be viewed kindly by history. Defense Department spending on patriotic displays in professional sports clouded that view, but the mass movement against systemic racism has clarified what patriotism can be.
