Mayor Pete Buttigieg: The Afghanistan Papers show us it's time to end America's longest war
This week, The Washington Post published The Afghanistan Papers, a years-long investigation that revealed senior U.S. officials failed to tell the truth about the war in Afghanistan throughout the 18-year campaign. Responding to the investigation, Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, a veteran of the War in Afghanistan, said the investigation shows us why we need to end America's longest war. “I thought I was one of the very last troops, turning out the lights, when I left years ago. And right now, somebody in Indiana is packing their bags, getting ready to go over, who possibly wasn’t alive on 9/11 and is wondering why exactly they're going."
