Following two high-profile mass shootings, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said she believes lawmakers should pass a federal ban on assault weapons and hold a nationwide buyback of military-style firearms. “We don’t want to live in a world where we’re teaching our children shelter-in-place drills instead of math drills…that’s not an America that we should want to live in.”
