As the sun rose Monday morning, a deck of mid- and high-level clouds was streaming in from the north. The combination produced magnificent morning color.
The sunrise showed off a beautiful blend of purple, pink, orange and yellow spread across the sky throughout the region.
A few early risers even captured a sun pillar, which is a vertical shaft of light that forms when sunlight reflects off ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.
The gorgeous but chilly sunrise marks the beginning of a week that, with the exception of Tuesday, will be much colder than the one before. We could even see some snowflakes by the weekend.
