Would you pose for a photo with a giant, red-eyed bug crawling across your face or perched on your arm or chest? And then submit your photo to The Washington Post for the world to see? It takes courage.

We applaud our brave, bug-loving readers who accepted our cicada selfie challenge and posted their photos on Facebook and Twitter. Over 160 funny, artistic and creepy bug photos were submitted, which capture the spirit of the 2021 cicada emergence. There were some great shots!
