Nicole made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane on the east coast of Florida early Thursday morning, and shortly after was downgraded to a tropical storm.

Ahead of the storm, the surge threat prompted mandatory evacuations in several coastal areas in Florida. The storm is forecast to deliver heavy rain along entire East Coast as it moves north.
