Long before turmoil escalated in Mali last year, the country experienced a different kind of dramatic change in the years leading up to and right after the end of French colonial rule. Two Malian photographers, Seydou Keita and Malick Sidibe, chronicled that period through portraits and scenes of life in the West African country. Here is a sample of their work.
