The United Nations estimates that 1.5 million Syrians have registered, or are awaiting registration, as refugees. The U.N. and the Turkish government say that more than 400,000 of them are in Turkey, though the number of those officially registered is less than 350,000. By the end of this year, the U.N. says, there will be 1 million refugees in Turkey and 3.5 million across the region. Read related story.
