Four years ago, Israel launched a military operation to halt rocket attacks by Hamas. The offensive, code-named Cast Lead, killed 225 Palestinians on the first day. During the three-week conflict, more than 1,000 Palestinians and 13 Israelis died. Last week, Israel began a similar operation, Pillar of Defense, to destroy Hamas rockets. As of Tuesday, 130 Palestinians and five Israelis had been killed.
