Peace accords divided the West Bank into three areas controlled by Israel, the Palestinians or the Palestinian civil authority with Israeli military control. Some in the Israeli government have advocated plans for Israel to unilaterally annex Area C and leave areas A and B to be administered by the Palestinian Authority, with oversight by Israeli security forces.
