Army Staff Sgt. Clinton L. Romesha, a section leader in a unit of the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division during a 2009 attack on Combat Outpost Keating in the Kamdesh District of Nuristan province, became the fourth living recipient of the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor, for his actions in Afghanistan. He was wounded by shrapnel during the fierce 12-hour battle, in which he was credited with saving the lives of fellow soldiers who were pinned down by heavy fire from Afghan insurgents belonging to or allied with the Taliban.
