LONDON — Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch announced Tuesday his engagement to Jerry Hall, the former Texan supermodel and partner of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, in the London newspaper his corporation owns.
A short announcement on the Births, Marriages and Deaths page of the London Times newspaper, said Murdoch, 84, and Hall, 59, are engaged to be married. The paper said the engagement came after a four-month romance.
Murdoch and Hall have been dating since last summer, reported the Times, which is owned by News Corp., the company Murdoch runs as executive chairman.
The couple were introduced by one of Murdoch’s sisters and his niece, Penny Fowler, in Australia, the paper reported.
Their relationship became public in October when they appeared together at the rugby World Cup final. They became engaged over the weekend in Los Angeles, where they attended the Golden Globes awards, the paper reported.
The marriage will be Murdoch’s fourth and Hall’s second, although her first official one. Hall married Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, the father of her four children, in a Hindu ceremony in Bali in 1990, although the musician claimed in divorce proceedings in 1999 that the couple were not legally married.
Hall lives in the leafy, riverside London suburb of Richmond, where she raised her and Jagger’s four children. One of their children, Georgia May Jagger, is also now a famous model.
Murdoch was previously married to Patricia Booker, an Australian, and then to the journalist Anna Torv. He later married Wendi Deng, a Hong Kong Chinese former employee of his television station Star TV, whom he divorced in 2013.
“Mr. Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement,” the Times announcement read. No date for the wedding was listed.
The couple have been introducing their families to each other and went on vacation with some of their 10 children in the Caribbean after Christmas, the paper reported.
“They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future,” a spokesman for the Murdoch family was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
