Search area for missing airliner expands

The Malaysian government announced Monday that it has expanded the search west into the Andaman Sea, far from the plane’s intended northeasterly flight path toward China. For the plane to have crashed into the Andaman Sea would imply that it had somehow turned back and crossed the entire Malaysian peninsula without being detected by radar operators. Two oil slicks and floating debris in the initial search area were found to be not connected to the missing plane. Read related article.
