Government funding standoff House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) is greeted by journalist at the Capitol on Sept. 28, where he was questioned about the spending bill to fund the government. The House passed a bill that included an amendment to defund the new health-care law. The Senate leadership rejected that bill, instead offering a funding bill that did not include any reduction of spending on the health-care law.
